Biography:
Jewels Holladay, born in Washington DC, was exposed at an early age to the dynamic world of art from the National Gallery, to the Smithsonian and many more. As a child, she traveled all over the country with her family expanding a passion to our natural world, increasing an awareness and respect for various cultures, as well as continuing her love of learning and creating art. Jewels never grew out of that astonishment and inquisitiveness to learn, she eventually went onto study Science and Art through Western Michigan University. There she majored in Biology but also specialized in Art. She concentrated on mixed media techniques with watercolors and later traveled to Norway to collaborate with many globally celebrated artists, including Lou & Linda Rizzolo. After graduating, she moved to sunny Colorado and continued to develop her skills with watercolor. While teaching, Jewels continued to study art, taking various classes at the collegiate level, and also completing her Masters in Science in Education. Throughout her time there, a majority of her work was displayed at various galleries and juried art festivals, all over the beautiful state of Colorado. Jewels Holladay has been celebrated as an artist in Best of Show at the Boulder Art Festival, Second Place in Evergreen Art show, Honorable Mention in the Colorado State Fair, and was also featured at the Denver Art Museum with her art students. After starting a family, she moved with her husband and two small kids to Denton, TX. While there she continued to teach art, but also completed her Masters in Arts in Counseling. Lately her focus has been on creating more artwork, being a mother of two, working full-time as a school counselor, and volunteering with the Art Room assisting with art therapy techniques in the community.
Education: Masters in Counseling at Texas Women’s University.Masters in Curriculum & Instruction at Phoenix. Bachelors in Science, Art Minor at Western Michigan University. Continued education courses in the arts & art therapy.
Professional Experience: Obtained art teaching certification, K-12 for Colorado and Texas. Teaching and developing Visual Art Department at Castle View High School for 7 years. Art Department Chair 2006-2009. Taught art in Denton ISD, then became a school counselor working on personal artwork.
Study Abroad: Norway, Summer 2001. Specialized mixed media watercolor techniques.
